E-Collaboration Systems: How Collaborative They Really Are
Electronic Collaboration Systems support employees in communication, coordination and collaboration tasks to work together to a common purpose to achieve business benefit. However, the marketplace of E Collaboration systems is multifaceted and is made up of various types of systems with differing emphasis. E Collaboration systems may be well suited for communication tasks or coordination tasks (e.g., collaboration systems with focus on project management), but lack support of collaborative tasks – and vice versa. To identify the extent of the support of “real” collaboration of E Collaboration systems, an analysis of collaboration features is applied to a number of E Collaboration systems. Although we focus entirely on collaboration features and present results on a number of E-Collaboration systems with above-average collaboration emphasis, significant differences in extent and quality of collaboration support can be detected.
Wikis im unternehmensinternen Wissensmanagement
Mittels Cross-Case Analyse von acht Fallstudien zum Einsatz von Wikis im un-ternehmensinternen Wissensaustausch wird untersucht, welche Maßnahmen eingesetzt werden, um die aus Literatur und Praxis bekannten Förderfaktoren umzusetzen. Als Ergebnis zeigt sich, dass eine Vorbildfunktion des Manage-ments und klare Ziele den Erfolg wesentlich beeinflussen. Den größten Nutzen ziehen MitarbeiterInnen aus der verbesserten Transparenz, der Durchsuchbar-keit der Wissensbasis, der Dokumentation und dem Austausch von Wissen.
Supporting a Blended Learning Course by Podcasting
The efficient use of different kinds of podcasts (audio, video and screen casts, enhanced podcasts) in a part-time degree programme based on blended learning at a university of applied sciences is presented. An integrated approach using podcasting is introduced that provides students with eLearning content in phases of distance learning. Educational content is prepared based on the principles of web didactics and distributed by podcasts. A course design is presented that integrates podcasting with phases of attendance in blended learning courses.
Reviewing the E-Collaboration Marketplace
Electronic collaboration systems that support and enable communication, coordination and collaboration between people in shared projects, processes and teams within organisations and for cross-organisational use have significantly changed under the influence of Web 2.0 technologies and social software. The electronic collaboration marketplace is made up of numerous systems that offer a large variety of features. A classification approach is presented that classifies electronic collaboration systems and thus structures the diverse collaboration marketplace. Collaboration systems are evaluated and compared using a set of evaluation criteria that allow for the assessment of all major collaboration tasks. Thus completeness of systems as well as the main focus of applicability of individual collaboration systems is determined.

Bibliothekswesen und Wissensmanagement sind eng verwandte Disziplinen. Das zeigt sich nicht nur in der Praxis, sondern manifestiert sich auch in den Ausbildungsprogrammen an Hochschulen. Im Zentrum der Untersuchung stehen daher die Fragen: Wie viel Wissensmanagement steckt im Bibliothekswesen und Wissensmanagement sind eng verwandte Disziplinen. Das zeigt sich nicht nur in der Praxis, sondern manifestiert sich auch in den Ausbildungsprogrammen an Hochschulen. Im Zentrum der Untersuchung stehen daher die Fragen: Wie viel Wissensmanagement steckt im Bibliothekswesen? Wie viel Bibliothekswesen ist im Wissensmanagement enthalten? Diese Fragen werden anhand von ausgewählten Ausbildungsprogrammen an deutschsprachigen Hochschulen für diese verwandten Disziplinen beantwortet. Es wird untersucht, ob die Curricula von Bachelor- und Masterstudiengängen Ausbildungsinhalte aus dem jeweilig anderen Fachgebiet enthalten.? Wie viel Bibliothekswesen ist im Wissensmanagement enthalten? Diese Fragen werden anhand von ausgewählten Ausbildungsprogrammen an deutschsprachigen Hochschulen für diese verwandten Disziplinen beantwortet. Es wird untersucht, ob die Curricula von Bachelor- und Masterstudiengängen Ausbildungsinhalte aus dem jeweilig anderen Fachgebiet enthalten.
Ausbildung im Spannungsfeld zwischen Bibliothekswesen und Wissensmanagement
In diesem Vortrag werden unterschiedliche Studiengänge und Ausbildungsprogramme im Bibliotheks- und Wissensmanagement vorgestellt und verglichen. Anhand des Bachelor-Studiengangs Information, Medien & Kommunikation und des Master-Studiengangs Angewandtes Wissensmanagement der Fachhochschule Burgenland, des Universitätslehrgangs Library and Information Studies der Universität Wien und weiterer Ausbildungen in Österreich wird analysiert, was diese Programme eint und unterscheidet. Im Zentrum der Untersuchung steht die Frage wie viel Wissensmanagement im Bibliothekswesen steckt und wie viel Bibliothekswesen im Wissensmanagement enthalten ist. Diese Frage wird anhand von ausgewählten Ausbildungsprogrammen für diese verwandten Disziplinen beantwortet. Dazu wird untersucht, ob die Curricula Inhalte aus dem jeweilig anderen Fachgebiet beinhalten. Auf der inhaltlichen Ebene werden sowohl die Konzepte als auch die in der Ausbildung vermittelten Kenntnisse über Werkzeuge wie Wikis und Ordnungssysteme untersucht. Zusätzlich werden die Kompetenzprofile der Ausbildungsprogramme in Hinblick auf Überschneidungen analysiert.
Podcasting-based Mobile Learning in Blended Learning Courses
Blended learning scenarios benefit from educational content delivered to mobile devices supporting full mobility of students. Podcasting and the utilization of various types of podcasts are discussed as an efficient means of providing mobile students in a part-time degree programme with learning content. Crucial to the success of podcasting is the chosen course design that mixes face-to-face phases with distance learning phases based on the delivery of appropriate content embedded in podcasting episodes. The type and output format of those episodes has to be chosen accurately according to the applied usage scenario.
Enterprise 2.0 Adoption in SMEs: Application Areas, Motivation, Success Factors, and Barriers
Social software platforms provide an efficient means to support team collaboration and knowledge management within the enterprise. Especially small or medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) may benefit from easy to use, light-weight enterprise 2.0 applications. A research approach is presented that is based on a cross-case analysis of case studies each of them representing an implementation of an emergent social platform within an organisation. The case studies are analysed by applying a structured approach to a qualitative content analysis. We determine which adoption strategies organisations use and identify applications areas and motivation factors of social software utilisation. Critical issues for the success of enterprise 2.0 initiatives like barriers and success factors are derived to provide organisations with deeper insight when starting their own enterprise 2.0 implementation.
Collaborative Content Management in E-learning
Recently, many new technologies have been developed in content management, e.g., collaborative content management, user generated content, Web 2.0 approaches. Many of these technologies can be used effectively for educational purposes. Since the development in the field of content management is very dynamic it also affects E-learning systems. This paper aims at identifying trends in collaborative content management that can be applied in E-learning scenarios. Additionally, it points out whether underlying technologies of these trends have already been integrated in learning management systems, learning content management systems and conventional web content management systems.

The utilization of different kinds of podcasts (audio, video and screen casts) in a part-time degree programme based on blended learning at a university of applied sciences is presented. The high potential of podcasting to provide students with eLearning content in phases of distance learning is analyzed. Principles of web didactics are applied to podcasting content to identify course topics that can be covered by podcasts. Special attention is directed to the integration of podcasting with phases of attendance in blended learning courses.
